Well, here in the Maritimes we've already gotten our first snowfall of the season. A tad early, yes, although I remember many Halloweens as a child when I had my snowsuit on underneath my costume as we went Trick-or-Treating!
My boys were so excited when they heard there was snow on the way. Me, not so much! They were thinking of snowmen, snowballs, and sliding. I, on the other hand, was thinking I needed to get to Walmart and buy some boots for Elijah, who outgrew his ones from last season. I was also thinking of the 20 minutes it takes to get ready every morning, how long the trek to school is when the boys are both weighed down with 15 extra lbs of snow gear, and how cold my feet are going to be on a regular basis. I was thinking of running out to start the car in the mornings in my pj's, so that the 2" of ice on the windshield can have a chance to melt before I need to go to the grocery store. I was thinking of colds and flu and H1N1 and bronchitis and all of the health woes that plague us from November until April each year. I was thinking of shuffling down the driveway with the garbage, trying desperately to make it to the end without falling on my behind and bruising more than my ego.
But then I started thinking about Christmas... the lights, decorations, music and laughter... the time spent with family and friends. And I thought about cozy nights at home with a cup of hot chocolate, watching the snow fall gently outside. I thought about boys with rosy cheeks, happy after an afternoon of playing in the snow. I thought about snow days - the anticipation at 6AM, and the cheer from Elijah when the message comes that school has been cancelled. I thought about how beautiful the trees look in the sunlight after an ice storm.
And so I say... bring it on! I'm ready! Just let me put my tuque on first.

Brianna said to tell you if it is ok with you she will make you a button for your blog.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I am with you. I hate all the inconveniences of cold and ice... but I love everything about snow so much that they fade quickly into the back ground. My hubby is working from home today and I can already hear Christmas music coming from his office. Unfortunately, it will be some time before we see any white stuff. But we can dream. we got the boots and snow pants ready when it decides to show up.
Love ya!

Tell sweet Brianna I'd love for her to make me a button! :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't get a lot of snow here unless we go up to the Mountain. So the most snow I've seen recently is when I went to Romania and Prague. Strange to have to visit another country for snow! Guess what I'm saying is ... yes, inconvenient, but I miss it.
ReplyDeleteAww this post really made me smile, it also helped me remember that I need to try and seek out the positive in every situation.. like today and the struggle we've been going through with our sick Noah for the last five days! Thanks for the cheer up, Heidi!
ReplyDeleteMiss Heidi,
ReplyDeleteI saw your comment over @ Aunt Diann's blog, and thought I should let you know that baby was born! Details are posted over at my blog, and Mom will be posting photos ASAP.

In regards to your comment on Di's last post...
ReplyDeleteHeidi...
You are so funny! Let's really drive Di nuts and tell her how all of us had perfectly neat homes, Martha Stewart dinners, romantic interludes, up to date scrapbooks, perfect hair and posted on our blogs everyday when we had our newborns.
Love ya!

And in regards to your comment on my trip to Italy:

Yes!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely pretend to be Canadian. That gets you much better treatment everywhere...except maybe the US. ;) Maybe you should just take the token Canuck along for your trip - in case you can't convince people with your ridiculous attempt at a Canadian accent, eh? ;)"
I think that is a great idea. How did you know my accent was so bad. And how is your Italian?
And in reference to the name Gabriel, I do love that name. I was pushing it for one of our boys but got vetoed. And she ended up being a girl anyway:)
