Happy Birthday, Elijah!

Yesterday, my beautiful boy celebrated his eighth birthday. I can't believe my number one son, my first baby boy, is eight years old! Elijah is still getting over his illness and not feeling the best. His cough continues to make me cringe each time I hear it. His stamina is still low. I planned a fun morning out for him, as he is off school until Monday. We went to the mall for breakfast, a haircut, and to pick out some new Lego with his birthday money. Our trip was cut short when he went white as a sheet and wasn't feeling well. We did manage to get his Lego purchased, which definitely perked him up a bit. In lieu of a big birthday bash this year, we gave Elijah the money we would have spent on a party at the science museum, and he is having two friends over later this month. Much more low key and less hassle for sure! Elijah is quite aware of the value of a dollar, and his eyes lit up when we offered him this alternative. I was just relieved to not have to deal with ten hyper 8 year old boys at a science museum for two hours, and a pile of gifts Elijah would mostly have no use for. He really enjoyed picking out some new Lego, even if he wasn't feeling the greatest. The rest of the day was spent putting his creations together.

Today, we had Grandma and Grandpa over for a birthday dinner. Before the H1N1 epidemic stormed through our house and infected Elijah, Ezekiel and myself, I had promised him some very cool tie-dyed cupcakes for his birthday. Unfortunately, this Mommy was still not feeling up to baking yesterday, so instead Elijah picked out a cake from the store. "Chocolate Lover's Delight" was its name, and it was definitely that. We had a great time visiting with my mom & dad, eating pizza and cake. We gave Elijah the surprise gift we'd gotten for him as well - a remote controlled micro robotic bug - which was a big hit with our science-lover. Ezekiel had a major meltdown after Elijah opened his gift, as he thought he should get one too. I chalk it up to him being a) four year old and b) sick with an ear infection (yes, on top of the H1N1!). Here are a few more photos from our little celebration.

Little brother wanted in on the photo opportunity!

Seconds before the full-blown meltdown happened... he was not a happy camper!
